Jitka Vasek, M.D.
Doctor Vasek is a board certified psychiatrist with over 15 years of experience working with individuals and couples with a wide array of problems.
She is a trained psychotherapist and psycho-pharmacologist. She has special interests in treating patients who are suffering from depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and Bipolar Disorder. She has successfully treated patients with virtually any of the major psychiatric and psychological disorders.
Doctor Vasek has done research into the physiology of stress reactions where she was the Principal Investigator in a multicenter trial studying the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis in post-traumatic stress.
She is a graduate of the Medical School of the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. Doctor Vasek served as a registrar at The Maudsley Hospital, a highly esteemed psychiatric treatment center in London, England. She completed a psychiatric residency at Boston University where she was the chief resident in Psychiatry; In addition, she was awarded the prestigious Chairman’s Award for Excellence. In 1999, Dr. Vasek was named the Pfizer Psychiatry Resident of the year, a national award. Before moving to Fort Myers, Doctor Vasek was pursing an Assistant Clinical Professorship of Psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine, while working as a Director of Psychiatric Services for Women at the National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. She was also in charge of ECT for the regional VA Health Care System.
Dr. Vasek is a fully licensed physician in the state of Florida and Massachusetts.
